Naib Ketua Pemuda PBB lapur polis mengenai radio stesen haram
KUCHING: A group of PBB youth from all over the State led by Vice Youth Chief, Pandi bin Suhaili lodged a police report at the Simpang Tiga police station against Radio Free Sarawak this afternoon. Pandi said the report was against those operating the station which contained anti-state government statements. He said the Deputy Minister of Information, Communication and Culture, Datuk Joseph Salang said police would take action if a report has been lodged. Legal advisor, Firdaus Morshidi said the comments given in Radio Free Sarawak were seditious and defamation and legal action can be taken against them. He said the operators had committed a serious offence of operating without a legal licence. The signal traced it to Malacca and not London as alleged by the operators, he said. Pandi said three individuals had been named in the operation which included, Peter John Jaban, Lester Melanyi and British citizen, Clair Rewcastle Brown. He said the PBB youth wanted the police to take action against the team and called for a stop to such irresponsible propaganda.

Posted on Borneo Post March 3, 2011, Thursday
KUCHING: State Democratic Action Party (DAP) vice-chairman Chong Siew Chiang who won a libel case against Padungan assemblyman Dominique Ng filed a notice of taxation for the bill of cost yesterday.
The cost applied is RM147,497, being the sum for all the authorities of 676 pages, Chong’s submission (93 pages), witnesses expenses (eight witnesses called to appear in court for 11 days for the case hearing), and also a total of RM3,314 for filing fee, which brings the total cost to RM150,811.
Chong, accompanied by counsel Alvin Yong of Chong Brothers, made the filing yesterday morning at the High Court registry before senior assistant registrar Zubaidah Sharkawi.
On Jan 26, the High Court here in favouring Chong, ruled that Ng was found liable for making defamatory remarks against him (Chong).
Ng was ordered to pay RM100,000 and apart from that he was liable to pay an interest of four per cent from the start of the first hearing.
Second defendant of the case United Borneo Press, publisher of United Daily News, was ordered by the court to pay RM50,000 for damages.
The judgment was made in chamber which was presided by Judicial Commissioner Ravinthran N.Paramaguru.
Chong filed a case against Ng when he (Ng) uttered the remark “Who is the real hypocrite?” when campaigning in 2008 here and in Sarikei.
After the judgment, Ng said he would file an appeal against the decision.
Chong yesterday said he had received the notice of appeal filed by the first defendant, Ng, and would consider to cross appeal the case.
He said if there is no cross appeal, the court will fix a trial date for the appeal in Court of Appeal.
