KUCHING: A video posted by SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian on his Facebook account has been received enthusiastically by netizens, garnering over 3,000 positive Facebook reactions and close to 2,000 shares as of the time of writing. It’s also been viewed more than 150,000 times, with many commenters expressing their approval of the song and the video.Titled ‘Ibu Pertiwikita’, which is obviously derived from the state anthem ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’, the video portrays the many aspects of life of the people of Sarawak, with themes of parenthood, family ties, bonds and unity. The video attempts to showcase the distinctiveness of both urban and rural life, with the inclusion of school children, the characterisation of the working class and other commonly seen sights in the state.Featuring male and female vocals, the song that plays along with the video starts slow with soft guitars and uplifting lyrics that are tastefully sung in English, Malay, Chinese and smatterings of Bahasa Sarawak. It then hits its stride in the chorus, forming a distinct bridge between the lyrics of the song and the scenes playing throughout the video. The song also manages to blend in the refrain from ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’ as a choral arrangement sung by the school children in the video.Dr Sim himself makes an appearance as a school teacher, guiding children to and fro from school. There’s even a special cameo by non other than Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who plays a bus driver at the very end of the video.Reading a copy of The Borneo Post, he asks Dr Sim: “Are we ready to go?” in what appears to be an allusion to his role as the primary driver behind progress in the state.
